'정물'은 세잔느의 예술 경력에 걸쳐 주요한 주제였습니다.

세잔은 과일, 주전자, 병, 팔레트와 같은 일상생활용품을 사용하면서 형, 색, 그리고 문양의 관계를 실험했는데, 그것들의 집합이란 평범해 보이지만 세쟌은 그것들의 배열에 큰 관심을 가졌던 것으로 알려졌습니다.

 

때때로 그는 물건들을 배열하는데 여러시간을 들였습니다.

밝게 채색된 이 수채화 작품속에서, 세쟌의 기념비적인 형태에 대한 개념은 명백합니다.

 

다닥다닥 놓여진 색의 작은조각들을 이용해서, 벽돌 구조물과 같은 형태를 만들어내면서, 세쟌은 물체의 3차원적인 입체감을 만들어냈습니다. 여기서 그의 신선하고 활발한 붓질들은 초록과 푸른색의 배경의 벽에 대비되어 보입니다. 아울러 제잔의 정물에 자주 등장하는 사과들은 경계선 주변에서 빨간 호 형태로 묘사되며. 빨강색 옆에는 노란 붓질이 되어있습니다
