Warner Collection, Tuscaloosa, Alabama   토마스 콜은 미국 화가로서 영국 랭커셔에서 출생했습니다. 17세 때 오하이오로 옮겨가 필라델피아의 펜실베이니아미술학교에서 공부하였다. 1825년 뉴욕에서 발표한 풍경작품이 주목받자, A.B. 듀란드와 중심이 되어 허드슨리버파(派)를 만들었다. 주로 허드슨강 유역의 광경을 그려 이런 이름이 붙여졌다. 그는 대자연을 성서로 여겨 충실한 작품활동을 하였으며, 그 밖에 우의적(寓意的) 작품도 그렸다. 작품에는 "강의 물굽이""인생항로""제국의 도정" 등이 있다.       Falls of Kaaterskill
